Family: Motacillidae

This family has 62 species (five genera) and are found on every continent except Antarctica. In the United States, there are two genera and are known as Pipits and Wagtails. They constantly bob their tails when they are walking or perched in a tree. They are often see in short grasslands, creek beds and beaches. Pipits tend to be very plain looking, colored like a sparrow and around the size of a European Starling. Wagtails are alittle more showy, one species is black and yellow, whole the other two species are black and white. All members of this family are ground nesters.
