Order: Anseriformes Family: Anatidae Chick Type: Precocial (Parental attendance) Cinnamon Teals are mainly resticted to western half of the United States. They can be found year round in most of California and they winter in southern Arizona and southern half of Texas and South America. This species also has several subspecies (Northern Cinnamon Teal, Tropical Cinnamon Teal, Borrero's Cinnamon Teal, Andean Cinnamon Teal and Argentine Cinnamon Teal). There are two breeding populations of this duck, a northern population, and a southern population. Cinnamon Teals are very closely related to Blue-winged Teals. Their diet consists of aquatic vegetation, seeds and aquatic invertebrates. Cinnamon Teals nest on the ground; the nest is made of vegetation and is lined with down feathers. The clutch size is around 4 - 16 creamy white colored eggs. Incubation time on average is 21- 25 days. |
