Black-tailed Rattlesnakes are found in Central and West Texas. Specimens from higher elevations tend to be darker than specimens from lower elevations. They are usually associated with rocky canyons and other elevated areas. One particular specimen was found curled up at the base of a clump of introduced Palm trees by the Hot Springs in Big Bend National Park. Proper snake handling tools must be use when handling this species.
