Genus: Crotalus
Scales: Dorsal Scales Keeled
Anal Plate: Single
This species is found in most of the Mid-west States, from Montana to West Texas. This particular species had several subspecies, but recently scientists elevated each subspecies to full species level. Prairie Rattlesnakes look like Mojave and Western Diamond-backed Rattlesnakes but they do not have the coon tail that the other two species have. Adults can grow to three to four feet in length. Their diets mainly include mammals and birds, but lizards are also taken.
