Order: Anseriformes Family: Anatidae Chick Type: Precocial (Parental attendance) Gadwalls brred in western Canada, midwest and western states. They winter in southern part of the United States, along with northern Mexico. They can also be found in northern areas of Europe and Asia. Their diet consists of aquatic vegetation (duckweed, naiad, widgeon grass), seeds and aquatic invertebrates. Gadwalls nest on the ground; the nest is made of vegetation and is lined with down feathers. The clutch size is around 7 - 12 cream colored eggs. Incubation time is around 26 days. |
