Long-nosed Leopard Lizards are found from southeastern Oregon, southern Idaho down to Arizonia and west Texas. They inhabit sandy to hard packed soil areas with sparce vegetation. When approached too closely, they seek shelter at the base of shrubs and cactus.
A strikingly beautiful lizard with gray/cream background with back spots. Some have white transverse lines on their backs and gravid females have orange spots/bands on their sides.
Diet includes grasshoppers, beetles and other insects, along with small vertebrate prey such as other lizards and even their own species.
Like many fast moving diurnal lizards, Leopard Lizards are very alert and active. They can often be seen basking on mounds or even on the side of roads. The viewer to get fairly close before they taking off.
