One of the more fossorial snake species found in Texas. There are two subspecies in this species. The Plains Blind Snake (Leptotyphlops dulcis dulcis) and also the South Texas Blind Snake (Leptotyphlops dulcis rubellum). This subspecies range from north-central to central Texas. They rarely venture out of the ground, except for after rains. Often are found under rocks and rotten logs after rains, or when they are raiding a terminate colony. Blind snakes feed on terminates and ants. They will enter the mound to find its prey, it expels a liquid from its anus to protect it from their bites.
