The Mississippi Green Water Snake resembles the Diamond-backed Water Snake in color, but it has a few characteristics are differs it from other native water snakes. First it has a subocular scale that completes an eye ring of scales around the eyes, hence its latin species name cyclopion. Second, its belly pattern has yellow half-moons over a back background. In Texas, this species is found along the upper Gulf coast. This species mainly eats amphibians and fish, but there are reports that it also eats crayfish.
