Five-lined Skinks are found throughout the Eastern half of the U.S. In Texas, they can be found in the Eastern half of the State. This skink species can reach up to 8.5 inches in total length (snout to end of tail). Young Five-lined Skinks have bright blue colored tails, which are used to draw predator attention to its tail rather than its head or body. The blue will eventually fade to a dark brown color as the skink matures. They eat a broad range of invertebrates and small vertebrates.
