| Genus: Sceloporus
Type of Scales: Keeled
Texas Spiny Lizards are found from North, Central and South Texas. They are active day time lizards that will seek shelter in trees when disturbed. They are excellent climbers and try to keep the tree truck between itself and its ememies, much like how a squirrel would do. They are fairly large lizards and can get to almost a foot in length. Depending on the their size, they can eat anything from small insects to other lizards. This species also exhibits sexual dimorphism, males have a blue area on each side of their belly. Like most Spiny Lizards (Genus: Sceloporus), the Texas Spiny Lizard lays eggs, rather than giving birth to their young.
