Variable Ground Snakes are just want the name states, variable. They come in a broad range of colors, from a drab brown to almost an orange color. Some don't have any patterns, while others have crossbands.
This species is found in the southern Midwest, the Southwest and Western states. In Texas, they are found throughout the state, except in East Texas.
Unlike most snakes that eat other vertebrates, Ground snakes prey on invertebrates, such as insects, scorpins and spiders. They are often found under rocks, logs and other debris.
