One of the more common snakes to be seen in their range. Often found under rocks, logs, leaf litter and other debris. The average length is around 8 to 10 inches. Rough Earth Snakes are really inoffensive; they never bite but will expel musk as an defensive strategy. Their diet consists mainly of earthworms. A study done by Donald R. Clark Jr. and Robert R. Fleet in College Station, Texas found that adult female home ranges can be up to 100 square meters (Clark & Fleet 1976). Placental nurishment and embryonic nutrition studies have been done on this species.
