The Research Project: Karl Malcolm and Dave MacFarland's project of tracking black bears and finding out where they go in terms of population dynamics and how it relates to bear management in the state. Karl's project focuses on dispersal of yearling bears, while Dave works on spatial models of human/black bear internations.

Black bear tranquilizing equipment. Thats Mike Gappa, a legendary Wisconsin Bear Biologist. He retired in 2003 from Wisconsin DNR. He has been helping Karl and Dave with their projects.

1 Sow and 3 cubs (2.1), eye drops are placed in each of their eyes so they get too dry and also protect against dirt.
